Book: Modern Extension Development for TYPO3 CMS with Extbase & Fluid

Everytime I publish an article or a book in German there are a lot of dicussions why this was not done in English. This is a really huge topic and there are many arguments for and against publishing in English as the first language for me personally and for a publisher. Marcus Schwemer recently wrote a great blog article about this topic, which covers many but not even all aspects.

Exactly one year ago, I deeply thought about this topic for my recent book about TYPO3 Extbase (and the fact, that there is no good documentation about Extbase in English) and wrote an email to Michael Schams (the great guy who is responsible for the english translation of the „What’s new slides“,  the whole project behind and many more), where I asked him if he would be interested in a book project. I mentioned that Ben came up with the idea of having a TYPO3 Extbase book in English :-)

Today, we (Michael and me) are very very happy to let you know, that we spent a lot of time and energy in the last 12 months, not only translating my German Extbase book, but also updating it to take TYPO3 CMS 7 into account. The translation has been reviewed by two English native speakers and the new book has been published by Open Source Press last week! It is already available at Amazon and other distributors.

We see this book as a kind of „test candidate“: if the book becomes a success (number of sold copies should reach or even exceed the number of German copies), we increase the chances of publishing more English TYPO3 books. On the other hand, if only a few copies are sold, it’s clearly an indication that there is no
need for English books in the TYPO3 community.

So – dear Reader of this blog – it’s up to you to make the English edition of „TYPO3 Extbase“ a big success!
